Isaiah 53 -tf

v. 1 "Who hath believed. . . ?"

John 12:37-38 "But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not. . . ."

". . . and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?"

Matthew 11:25-27 ". . . he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him."

(Example: Matthew 16:15-17 ". . . flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father. . . .")

Luke 17:27-30 "Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed."

v. 2 "For he shall grow up . . . as a root . . ."

11:1,10 "And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse. . . ."

" out of a dry ground . . ." (the world)

John 19:28 "Jesus . . . that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst."

29-30 So we gave him vinegar!

(See: Psalm 69:20-21 ". . . and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.")

John 4:14 While he came to cure our thirst in this "dry ground."

(And incidentally:)

19:31-33 ". . . because it was the preparation . . . they brake not his legs. . . ."

See: Exodus 12:43-47 ". . . neither shall ye break a bone thereof."

(What does the passover have to do with it?)

Answer: John 19:14-15 "And it was the preparation of the passover. . . ."

Isaiah 44:3 "For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. . . ."

"he hath no form . . . "

Philippians 2:5-8 "Who, being in the form of God . . . took upon him the form of a servant. . . ."

"that we should desire him."

Examples of this use of the word:

Genesis 3:16 ". . . thy desire shall be to thy husband. . . ."

4:7 ". . . unto thee shall be his desire. . . ."

Psalm 27:4 David thinks the Lord is beautiful and hasn't seen him with his eyes.

90:17 This beauty isn't skin deep.

96:9 It's something else.

Proverbs 31:30 ". . . beauty is vain. . . ."

2nd Corinthians 5:7 We never received him for his looks, anyway. "(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)"

v. 4 "He is despised . . ."

John 15:18, 23-25 "They hated me without a cause."

"and rejected of men . . ."

John 19:15 Read it again.

Matthew 21:42 (33-44) "The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner. . . ."

Acts 4:10-12 ditto

1st Peter 2:4,7 "disallowed indeed of men. . . ."

"a man of sorrows. . ." ("our lady of sorrows"?)

(See: 42:8 "I am the Lord . . . and my glory will I not give to another. . . .")

Romans 1:21-25 "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature. . . ."

Why should the Lord be a "man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief"? (See v. 4.)

(John 7:10 "that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.")

"and we esteemed him not."

Deuteronomy 32:15 As Jeshurun, who "lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation."

Luke 16:15 ". . . that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God."

(Example: Jeremiah 7:17-19 Honoring the "queen of heaven." The whole family is in on it.)

What's wrong here? Answer: Isaiah 29:13-14

v. 4 "smitten of God . . ." That's right!

Matthew 27:45-46 "Why hast thou forsaken me?"

26:39 "O my Father, if it be possible . . . nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."

v. 5 "wounded . . . bruised . . . chastisement . . . stripes. . . "

Matthew 26:67-68 "Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him. . . ."

27:11-12 "Thou sayest." (A king has subjects, and where are they?)

20-30 "And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head."

v. 7 "he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter. . ."

John 1:26-29 "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

"and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."

See: Matthew 27:12-14 "And he answered him to never a word. . . ."

v. 9 "And he made his grave with . . . the rich in his death. . . ."

Matthew 27:57-60 ". . . a rich man . . . begged the body of Jesus . . . and laid it in his own new tomb. . . ."

v. 10 "Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief. . . ." (Who is "he"? Pilate?)

(See: "smitten of God" in verse 4)

John 19:5-11 "Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above. . . ."

"he shall see his seed. . . ." (How can that be? See v. 8 "and who shall declare his generation? . . .")

Psalm 22:30 "A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation."
