1st Timothy 5:24-25 “Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.”
1st Corinthians 11:19 “For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.” (Sad, but true.)
(1) The Vain Use of the Name of God (The Lord holds his name up very high.)
Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”
Leviticus 19:12 “And ye shall not . . . profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord.”
24:10-16,23 “. . . he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death. . . .”
(2) Bringing the Lord Down and Making Him Contemptible
Psalm 139:20 “For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.”
74:10 “O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?”
v. 18 “. . . the enemy hath reproached, O Lord, and . . . the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.”
2nd Chronicles 32:1-19 “And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.” [making the Lord equal with the gods of this world.]
(Also in: Isaiah 37:1-23 “Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? . . . even against the Holy One of Israel.”)
[Do they call you a “cult” or a “Jesus freak”? It is the Lord they blaspheme!]
(Matthew 10:25 “If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more . . . them of his household?”)
(Revelation 13:1,5,6 “ And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.”) [QUESTION: What is “his tabernacle”?]
1st Peter 2:5 “Ye also . . . are built up a spiritual house. . . ”
1st Corinthians 3:16,17 “. . . ye are the temple. . . ”
v. 9 “For . . . ye are God’s building.”
2nd Corinthians 5:1 “our earthly house of this tabernacle” [that is, our fleshly bodies]
v. 4 “For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.”
Hebrews 9:8 “The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing. . . .”
[The use of the term “first tabernacle” implies at least one more to come after it.]
2nd Peter 1:13 “Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up. . . .” [“this body”]
v. 14 “Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle. . . .” [“die”]
Ephesians 2:18-22 “In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”
(In other words: Satan blasphemes God’s name, His possession in earth, and His possession in heaven.)
(3) Giving Worship To Any Besides God
Isaiah 65:7 “. . . your fathers . . . have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills. . . .”
(4) Receiving Worship As Though God
Acts 12:21-23 “And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.” (Herod received this.)
10:25-26 “But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.” (Peter would not receive this.)
Revelation 19:10 “And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not . . . worship God. . . .”
22:9 “Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not . . . worship God.” (Heavenly angels will not do it.)
(5) Claiming the Nature, Power, Position, or Title of God by a Man [As, for example, the “pope” claims he “takes the place of Christ,” and claims the title, “Holy Father” (John 17:11).]
2nd Thessalonians 2:3-4 “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” (Antichrist — like the Caesars and the “popes”.)
John 5:18 “Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”
(Remember: “I and my Father are one.”?)
[If the Lord were not God then he did repeatedly blaspheme.]
Mark 2:1-12 “Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?”
[The men who questioned this did not consider that the Lord was indeed God, but they did understand the definition of “blaspheme”.]
QUESTION: What are these men lacking understanding of here that the Lord made plain to them if they would hear it?
ANSWER: Matthew 7:15-23 “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
John 14:1-11 “Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.”
“BLASPHEMY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT”
Mark 3:1-30 “And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? . . . But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness. . . .”
Matthew 12:30-33 “. . . whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.”
