A PROFILE OF THE ENEMY
John 8:44 “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” [Our enemy is a murdering liar!]
[To understand chapter 41 in Job it is good to read chapter 40, which introduces it. At first it appears that a description of some natural beast is being given, but this is not so.]
Job 41:1-2 “Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?”
ANSWER: No, you can not (but the Lord Jesus Christ can).
vs. 3-4 “Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?”
(You think he’s working for you? You say you made a deal him: I have some bad news for you!)
v. 5 “Wilt thou play with him as with a bird?” (Is it safe to leave him with the children?)
v. 6 “Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?”
(Will you handle him as merchandise, like anything else that you are in control of?)
v. 7 “Canst thou fill his skin with barbed iron? or his head with fish spears?”
(Are you powerful enough, as when you’re fishing for tarpon? Is he putty in your hands to do your bidding? Are you safe in your dealings with him, Dear; as in experimenting with “a little eye of newt and hair of bat wing”?)
v. 8 “Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.”
1st Samuel 17:47 “. . . the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s. . . .”
2nd Chronicles 20:15 “. . . the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
v. 9 “Behold, the hope of him is in vain. . . .” [His power and earthly glory notwithstanding, his days are numbered.]
Revelation 12:12 “. . . for the devil . . . knoweth that he hath but a short time.”
(He is going to loose. He is a looser already.)
HIS APPEARANCE:
Psalm 74:14 “Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces. . . .” (Satan has more than one head!)
[We’re not looking at him here as he has ability TO APPEAR, but as he really IS (or was).]
(2nd Corinthians 11:14 “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”)
[Satan shows himself to most folks in his disguised form, but he has something to hide.]
Job 41:12-17 (back to Job) “I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.”
v. 18 “By his neesings [sneezing] a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.”
[He is a fire breathing, squinty eyed, murdering, liar!]
v. 19 “Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.”
v. 20 “Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.”
v. 21 “His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.”
v. 23 “The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.”
v. 33 “Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.”
EXAMPLE: Matthew 4:8-9
Matthew 4:9 “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” [Would you have the guts to say this to the Lord of Heaven?]
v. 34 “He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.” [That is, he is Satan, the devil.]
[He is exactly like the people who serve him, only even more so.]
(Isaiah 27:1 “In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish [1] leviathan the piercing serpent, even [2] leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay [3] the dragon that is in the sea.”)
[This is definition by repetition: all three are one.]

Psalm 74:13 “Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.”
[When David says this by the Spirit, it is already history.]
(Job 26:12 “He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.”)
[When Job says this by the Spirit, it hasn’t happened yet!]
Satan’s “godhood”
(1) The purpose of this bible study is not to glorify Satan in his “godhood,” or to magnify him in showing his power, but to warn the faithful of his power and the extent of his kingdom; because many deceived “Christians” think:
(A.) that Satan is not a real creature, or
(B.) that he is powerless in the world, or
(C.) that he has much less power than he actually does!
(2) Those who might go on to perdition by serving Satan because of his power and position are foolish because:
(A.) Satan’s power and position is limited,
(B.) Satan’s power and position is coming to an end, and
(C.) all those who serve Satan will be case into the lake of fire.
(3) Satan is not God: he is a created being, created by the Lord Jesus Christ, but with respect to this world he is a god to many deceived persons who serve him or who know not the Lord, and so is he also titled by the Lord.]
2nd Corinthians 4:3-4 “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
(Compare this title with: the God of the earth in Revelation 11:4 and The God of the whole earth in Isaiah 54:5.)
Ezekiel 28:13-15 “. . . the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. . . . Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
THE COVERING CHERUB (To understand this truth we need a little biblical history and terminology.)
(1) A “cherub” is a creature of the sons of God, some of whom serve the Lord in heaven, and particularly, who serve him in his throne room (as it were, as bailiffs in an earthly court room).
(2) A “cherub” has “wings,” whereas “angels” do not. (Angels always appear as men.)
(3) The word:
(a.) “cherub” is found 15 times in the old testament,
(b.) “cherubims” is found 55 times in the old testament and 1 time in the new testament
(c.) “Cherubims” is found 1 time in the old testament,
(d.) “cherubs,” is never found in the bible: the plural of “cherub” is “cherubims”
Exodus 25:19-25 “And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end: even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubims on the two ends thereof.”
Beasts at the throne of God
Ezekiel 1:10 “man . . . lion . . . ox . . . eagle”
(1:5,6,11,23 “four living creatures . . . four faces . . . four wings”)
10:14 “cherub . . . man . . . lion . . . eagle” (four beasts with four wings – 10:21)
[If both these described “beasts” are the same, then the “ox” and “cherub” are the same face.]
10:15 “And the cherubims were lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar.”
vs. 20-22 “This is the living creature that I saw . . . by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims. . . . And the likeness of their faces was the same faces which I saw by the river of Chebar. . . .”
10:5 “And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh.” (These “beasts” are “cherubim”.)
Revelation 4:6-8 “lion . . . calf . . . man . . . eagle” (four beast with six wings – 4:8)
[If these four “faces” are the same as in Ezekiel, then the “ox” and “cherub” are the same face as the “calf”.]
Isaiah 6:2 “Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.” (Seraphim have six wings.)
Ezekiel 28:1-15 “Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth. . . .”

SATAN’S INTENTIONS (The Desire of His “Heart”)
Toward Adam and Eve
Genesis 3:1-5 “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
[Satan is a liar, a deceiver, and a false accuser – he is completely bold to call the Lord a liar and a deceiver.]
Toward Job
Job 1:1-11 “Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, . . . touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”
vs. 20-21 “Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, and said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”
2:1-10 “But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.”
[Satan twice falsely accuses Job, who is beloved of the Lord.]
Revelation 12:10 Satan is “the accuser of our brethren. . . .”
He loves to separate “chief friends”
Toward David
(a) In the matter of numbering Israel
1st Chronicles 21:1 “And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.”
(b) In the matter of Bathsheba
Psalm 89:20-28 “I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: with whom my hand shall be established. . . . My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.”
Toward an Angel in the matter of Joshua the High Priest
Zechariah 3:1 “And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.”
Toward Michael the Archangel in the matter of the Body of Moses
Jude 1:9 “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”
Toward the Lord
Matthew 4:9 (again) “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.” [Satan is not only maneuvering to attain the head position of the universe, but intends to make the Son of God a betrayer of his Father.]
John 13:21, 26-27 “And after the sop Satan entered into him.”
Toward Men Generally
Leviticus 17:7 “And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring.”
[Satan deceives men into giving sacrifice to him.]
1st Corinthians 10:19-21 “But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.”
[That is, you can’t live in two worlds. Satan’s sacrifice (for example: “the mass”) is always “gentile.” False religion is not acceptable with God, while Satan, on the other hand, has nothing against “religion” – it’s the truth that he hates. Satan is the author of “religion.” Satan is, before all else, in the religious business, and whereas he has no “respect” for the truth, we should have no respect for religion. (Hopelessly reprobate men say, “We should respect each other’s religions.”, and they really mean it! They’re hoping to silence those who know the truth so they won’t be exposed!)]
Leviticus 18:20-28 “Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her. And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the Lord. Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: and the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.”
[Satan gets men to do all manner of perverted evil, even to killing their own children.]
(In America, today:
Murder is not called “murder” – it’s politely referred to as “freedom of choice.”
Adultery is nothing.
Sodomy is not called “perversion,” it is being “gay” and is a “civil right,” a federally protected special class.
Matthew 9:32-33 “And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake. . . .” [Satan “handicaps” people.]
12:22 “Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.” [Satan arranges for people to be completely cut off.]
vs. 43-45 “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
[Satan has no problem with going where he is neither wanted nor invited.]
13:1-43 “Behold, a sower went forth to sow. . . .” [Satan tries to prevent the work of God.]
17:14-18 “And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.”
[Satan picks on children.]
16:21-23 “ But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan. . . .” [Satan fools grown men and uses them.]
Luke 8:1-2 “. . . Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils. . . .” [Satan gangs up on women.]
Mark 16:9 “Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.”
Luke 22:1-6 “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.” [He is a betrayer.]
John 13:2 “ And supper being ended, the devil . . . now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot . . . to betray him. . . .”
Luke 22:31 “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you. . . .”
[Satan is a destroyer of men’s lives.]
Mark 5:1-19 “. . . night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.”
[Satan gets people to torture themselves and waste their lives in all manner of disgusting and unprofitable ways.]
John 13:21-27 [Satan used Judas for betrayal of the Lord.]
[Do you notice that the Lord does not speak the name of Judas?]
Acts 16:16-24 “And . . . a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: the same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.” (She and her devil got it exactly right!)
[Satan gives people power to “know things” by ways that are forbidden by God.]
26:1-18 “. . . To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God. . . .”
[Although Satan masquerades as a “god of light,” he is nothing but darkness.]
2nd Corinthians 12:7 [Satan buffeted Paul.]
2nd Thessalonians 2:7-12 “That they all might be damned who believed not the truth. . . .”
[Satan’s work is to get as many into this category as he can.]
1st Timothy 5:13-15 “For some are already turned aside after Satan.”
4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils. . . .”
Revelation 12:4 [Satan drew the third part of the angels of heaven into his rebellion.]
Satan’s Devices
(2nd Corinthians 2:11 “. . . lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”)
(1) Deceive:
Job 4:15-17 “Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: it stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?”
[First, understand that Eliphaz is here reporting what physically happened to him, when this “spirit” talked with him,
(2) then consider the motive behind what the spirit says to him,
(3) (which is to get Eliphaz to think that Job is a self-righteous hypocrite),
(4) and the “spirit” does this in the form of asking questions! (Remember, “Yea, hath God said. . . ?”)]
QUESTION: Who is this spirit?
ANSWER: The question is just too easy! Satan is not only sending Job’s “friends” over to sabotage him: he’s also providing the text for their speeches.
[Personal note: In 1981, I was in attendance at an “Assembly of God, Inc.” Sunday morning “service,” following a gross display of “spiritual” shenanigans by crazy acting women climbing over the pews and running up and down the isles. One of these women later walked behind me while I was in conversation with a man there, and as she did, the hair on the back of my neck immediately “stood up,” and I was given the sensation of cold chills down my back. The man noticed my apparently obvious shock at her presence and then matter-of-factly told me that she was a “culendera” (which is Spanish for “witch”)!]
THE NATURE OF THE BATTLE
Job 19:17-23 “My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children’s sake of mine own body. Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me. All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me. My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me. Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh? Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!” (They are! – tf.)
QUESTION: “Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?”
ANSWER: The devil will use Job’s flesh and his “friends” as weapons against him, but the devil is not satisfied with destroying Job’s flesh:
(1) he wants to destroy Job’s soul,
(2) he wants to break Job’s mind and his faith in his God,
(3) he will never quit.
NOTICE:
(1) Job’s friends persecute him because they were led to do so by devils, and they are not capable of discerning it.
(2) Job is entered into the battle because he eschews evil.
{“my servant Job” verse here}
(3) Eschewing evil glorifies the Lord and brings particular hatred from Satan.
{He that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey.}
Psalm 79:2 “The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.”
Revelation 12:9 “And the great dragon was cast out . . . which deceiveth the whole world. . . ..”
Ephesians 4:14 “. . . that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. . . .”
2nd Timothy 3:13 “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
EXAMPLE: 2nd Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition. . . .”
[The phonies say, “Before antichrist comes we’ll be raptured.”; and ask ignorant questions such as, “Would a righteous God let anything bad happen to his people?” (See “Pre-Tribulation Rapture” study.)]
ANTIDOTES: 2nd Thessalonians 2:13 “belief of the truth”
Exodus 23:13 “And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect. . . .” (We are in a war!)
(2) Call the Truth into Question:
Genesis 3:1 (again) “Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Matthew 4:1-3 “And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God. . . .”
ANTIDOTES: Joshua 24:14-15 “Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth. . . .”
2nd Thessalonians 2:10 “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.”
(3) Falsely Accuse:
Job 1:9-11 “Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? * * * But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.”
2:4-5 “And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.”
(4) Lie:
Acts 5:1-4 “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost. . . ?”
[Satan is a liar, and he gets those he can to lie also.]
(5) Magnify A Lie Through Constant Repetition ( “evolution,” “global warming,” and other religions posing as “science.”
Acts 19:23-34 “. . . all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.”
EXAMPLES: “repeating the rosary,” “saying novenas,” “going to mass,”
WARNING: Matthew 6:7 “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do. . . .”
(6) Make Personal Attacks (Whether True or Not) To Avoid The Greater Issue:
1st Samuel 17:19-28 “And . . . Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.” (In fact, he came down because his dad had sent him!)
ANTIDOTES: 1st Corinthians 4:5 “Therefore judge nothing before the time. . . .”
Luke 9:62 “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” [Did you think fighting the good fight was not going to take your full attention?]
(7) Accuse As Deceivers Those Who Are Not Deceived or Who Warn Against the Deception:
Matthew 27:62-66 “Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.”
John 7:43-52 “So there was a division among the people because of him. * * * The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? * * * Nicodemus saith unto them, . . . Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee?”
(1) The deceived deceivers accuse the sincere of being deceived.
(2) The prejudiced accuse the fair and impartial of being prejudiced.
2nd Corinthians 6:1-8 “. . . by honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true. . . .”
WARNING: John 7:24 “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”
(8) Masquerade As Righteous:
John 8:37-45 “Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.”
2nd Corinthians 11:13-15 “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
ANTIDOTE: Luke 11:35 “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.”
WARNING: Matthew 7:16 “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”
(9) Set up a believable substitute for the real thing: (The human race will run to it like flies to a picnic.)
EXAMPLES:
Χ “the Mass” in exchange for “fellowship in the Lord” See: 1st Corinthians 10:19-21 “But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.”
Χ “giving glory unto ‘Mary’” as opposed to worshipping God “in spirit and in truth.”
(Isaiah 48:11 “. . . and I will not give my glory unto another.”)
(42:8 “. . . my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”)
(John 4:23 “. . . the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. . . .”)

Χ being devoted to religious pretensions, affections, and rituals, rather than the Lord himself, such as:
Christ-“mass” (the pagan “Saturnalia” that never had anything to do with Jesus Christ):
(a) is actually based in the ancient pagan practice of sun god worship, celebrating the risen and reborn “sun” on the day of December 25th immediately following winter solstice (the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere) as the sun measurably begins to rise in the sky in its apparent orbit in the sky;
(b) this pagan festival was adopted as a Catholic practice by official order of a “pope!;”
(c) accepted as Catholic tradition by deceived, ignorant and pagan subjects of that “pope;”
(d) (is a lie which “Protestants” used to deny, that Christ is in the “mass” at all;)
(e) this pagan tradition is celebrated and perpetuated by telling lies to children;
(f) the entire society becomes involved in lying to children (even YOUR children);
(g) you aren’t bothered by it;
(h) you allow this to be done;

“Easter” (the ancient pagan fertility festival having its practice in the tradition of frolicking with the temple prostitutes of various different mystical religions for the purpose of appeasing the fertility gods and goddesses every spring, to insure the success of crops for the year.
