Birthdays

Birthdays

The celebration of birthdays , where did it originate ? Is it Christian ? (Christ like) . Did Jesus , his apostles , or any man of God celebratate birthdays ? The word birthday is mentioned three times in the bible . All three times , the ones celebrating their birthday where heathen men .The first man was Pharaoh and the second man was King Herod , which was mentioned twice in the New Testament . Both men hated Jesus Christ .

Gen 40:20    And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

Mat 14:6    But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

Mar 6:21    And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

Mar 6:22    And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

Also Jobs sons where celebrating , everyone his day. I believe this to be birthdays celebration .

Job 1:4    And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

Job 1:5    And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

Job 1:13    And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

Now lets look at chapter 3.

Job 3:1    After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.

Job 3:2    And Job spake, and said,

Job 3:3    Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.

Here Job uses the term “his day” , and he is talking about his birthdate .

Being Christian is to be a follower of Christ and not of the world . If Jesus or his followers did not celebrate birthdays should you?

How can I say with confidence that Jesus or his followers did not celebrate birthdays ?

God tells us how to worship him and commands us on what to do and what not to do .

Birthdays is one of if not highest day for Satanist.

Jer 10:2    Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

What does this have to do with birthdays ? This is getting right to the root of celebrating birthdays .

The heathen thought their was power in the stars . It was a day of lifting up ones flesh and foretelling of ones future .

“What’s your sign”? Why would anyone care what your sign was , if they didn’t believe there was power in the stars? Everyone wants to know their future and the majority of the world will hear it from anyone but God.

God has already told the future . God is the Alpha and the Omega , the first and the last. He knows the beginning and ending of all .

Horoscope 1. In astrology, a scheme or figure of the twelve houses, or twelve signs of the zodiac, in which is marked the disposition of the heavens at a given time, and by which astrologers formerly told the fortunes of persons, according to the position of the stars at the time of their birth.

The foretelling of the future according to someone’s horoscope is seen over and over in the bible and God is never pleased .

Isa 47:13    Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

Isa 30:9    That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:

Isa 30:10    Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

Has anything changed ? Everyone wants to hear a smooth saying .

Dan 2:2    Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, for to shew the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.

Dan 5:7    The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

Deu 18:10    There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

Deu 18:11    Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Deu 18:12    For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

2Ch 33:6    And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

2Ki 21:6    And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

Remember Saul ? He went to a woman that had a familiar spirit to hear his future .

Gal 4:8    Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

Gal 4:9    But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

Gal 4:10    Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.

Gal 4:11    I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

Anyone see a pattern here. What’s going on ? Men are following the way of the heathen . It is the heathen that seek after such things .

Col 2:8    Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

I know , someone out there is saying, I don’t do that . I just celebrate birthdays to say, “I’m glad so and so was born on this date. So I call or go by on his day to lift them up .”

Exactly! Which brings me to my next point .

We are told to humble ourselves , to deny our flesh. Paul said, I die daily. (That is to deny our flesh.)

Jas 4:10    Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Mat 16:24    Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Celebrating birthdays is the exact opposite of what God has commanded us to do. Birthdays lift up the flesh not humble or deny the flesh .

Gal 6:7    Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Gal 6:8    For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Which is more important to God , your birth or death ? If you are sowing to your spirit you will say death. It’s not important how or when you start but how you finish .

Ecc 7:1    A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

Ecc 7:8    Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Birthdays generate a proud spirit .

Psa 116:15    Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Jesus told us to remember his death not his birth. Why? Jesus came to die for the sins of the world. The climax of his life was at his death not his birth.

Gal 1:4    Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

1Jn 2:1    My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

1Jn 2:2    And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Heb 9:22    And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Jesus had to die and shed his blood and be risen the third that we might have life.

And it was his death he commanded us to remember .

1Co 11:26    For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

It is how we die that is important . Our flesh birth pales in comparison to how we die.

Mat 24:13    But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Php 3:7    But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Php 3:8    Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

Php 3:9    And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Php 3:10    That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Php 3:11    If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

(If you don’t make the first resurrection , it would be better if you was never born.)

Php 3:12    Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Php 3:13    Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Php 3:14    I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Php 3:15    Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

As Christians , we move forward. We press toward the mark . Celebrating our birth is not moving forward it is constantly looking back.

Luk 9:62    And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Luk 17:32    Remember Lot’s wife.

Luk 17:33    Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

Php 1:21    For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

How many verses would it take to convince you , it’s not about your birth but how you die. Being followers of Jesus Christ, shouldn’t we trust and obey and live according to God’s word and not after the traditions of men.

Gods word does not condone celebrating birthdays but condemns it.

Lets look at what Jesus told the churches at Asia.

Rev 2:5    Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Rev 2:6    But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

Rev 2:7    He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Rev 2:10    Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Rev 2:11    He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Rev 2:17    He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Rev 2:26    And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

Rev 3:5    He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Rev 3:6    He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Rev 3:12    Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Rev 3:13    He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Rev 3:19    As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Rev 3:20    Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Rev 3:21    To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Rev 3:22    He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

A good start is not what is important , but how you finish this race .

1Co 9:24    Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

You will not find a man of God celebrating birthdays . Birthday cakes , party horns , the games that are played on birthday celebrations , all have roots and they are not of God. If you will take time to look up the origin of birthday cakes and alike , you will find , it is total heathen . The round cake and the candles have Satanic roots .
