Honor & Respect

Romans 13:7 “Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”

WITHIN THE CHURCH

1st Timothy 5:17 “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.”

(Hebrews 13:17 “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”)

(1st Timothy 6:1 “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.”) (God is not raising up rebels anywhere.)

2nd Timothy 2:20-21 “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” (Why do these things happen?)

1st Corinthians 11:19 “For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.” (What happens if nothing is done?)

1st Corinthians 5:6 “Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?”

As also in: Galatians 5:9 “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.”

1st Timothy 5:1 “Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren. . . .”

(Remember Job’s wife! What was her name?)

[See Job 2:9 “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”]

1st Peter 3:1-6 “. . . ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands. . . . the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit . . . .”

v. 7 “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel . . . that your prayers be not hindered.”

(It’s the Lord’s way, concerning marriage, to have the stronger honour the weaker, also!)

Ephesians 5:22-24 “Wives, submit yourself unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”

(Esther 1:22 “. . . that every man should bear rule in his own house. . . .”)

[When it’s not this way the family and civilization fall apart.] (That’s exactly what Satan is after!)

1st Peter 2:17 “Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.”

1st Corinthians 11:4 “Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.”

(Many customs have come down from this: tipping a hat to a lady, coming into another man’s home, etc.)

Romans 12:10 “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. . . .”

(What do people do for the judge in court, or for our godless president when he enters? They stand up.)

(If the world does this for the godless and evil, why do we not do it to each other, who are to be preferred?)

Leviticus 19:32 “Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord.”

IF NOT HERE AND NOW, THEN HOW WILL IT BE DONE BY US TO THE LORD LATER?

Revelation 19:7 “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.” (Who do you think the “wife” is?)

1st John 4:20 “. . . he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”

2nd Corinthians 6:1-8 “By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true. . . .”

HONOR AND RESPECT IS NOT SOMETHING FOR US TO SEEK FROM OTHERS, BUT SOMETHING TO GIVE.

John 5:44 “How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?”

Psalm 49:12 “Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.”

v. 20 “Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.”
