Idle Words

James 3:1-12 “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”

1:26 “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue . . . this man’s religion is vain.”

Ephesians 4:29-30 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth. . . .”

Matthew 15:11-12 “Not that which goeth into the mouth . . . but . . . out of the mouth . . . defileth a man.”

Psalm 34:13 “Keep thy tongue from evil. . . .”

97:10 “Ye that love the Lord, hate evil. . . .”

Proverbs 29:24 “Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.”

Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. . . .”

so men say: GOD, (or) gol, ga, golly, gul, gosh, & gad

(then usually followed by) DAMN, (or) darn, dang, durn, burn, & drat

as in:

god + damn (or) gul darn gol dang dog gone dad burn dad blast dad blame

god + damned gul darned gol danged dog goned dad burned dad blasted dad blamed

god + damn it gul darn it gol dang it dog gone it dad burn it dad blast it dad blame it

along with: gad zooks & dag nab it

(NOTE: “gul” or “goll” is “golly” with the “y” left off, and “golly” is only a different way to finish saying “god.” “Dog” is “god” backwards, “dad” is another form of “father,” “gad” just sounds like “god,” and “dag” is “gad” backwards.)

JESUS (or) Gee, Jeez, Jeepers, Gee Whiz, & Cheese

(+) CHRIST (or) Cripes & Criminy

(=) JESUS CHRIST (or) Jeepers Creepers, Jiminy Crickets, & Cheese and Crackers.

(NOTE: for example Webster’s definition of “Gee” is: “interj. [euphemistic contraction of Jesus.]”)

Isaiah 5:20 “Woe unto them . . . that put darkness for light, and light for darkness. . . .” and

Leviticus 10:10 “. . . that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between clean and unclean. . . .”

so men naturally say:

“Holy” shit, “Holy” cow, “Holy” mackerel, “Holy” moly, “Holy” Toledo, and even “Good grief.”

Matthew 12:34-37 “. . . every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”

so Satan has men saying:

Hell, Heck, Shoot, Sheee, Sheeesh, Sheez, Wow, Zowie, Far out, Neato, Cool, Ouch, Ow, Yikes, like, O my stars, O me O my, Man, Man O man, Rackerfracker, Poo, Pshaw, My ass, Yuck, Dude, I’ll be damned, Esse, & Yo.

Exodus 23:13 “. . . and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.”

Joshua 23:7 “. . . neither make mention of the name of their gods. . . .”

so men say: by Jove, by Jiggers, by Gosh, Great Neptune, ee gads (ye gods), & “speak of the devil”

QUESTION: Can you picture you’re sitting around talking with the Lord and he starts using any of these idle words?

QUESTION: Can you picture the Lord reproving you when you use any of these idle words?

QUESTION: Will it irritate you if your friends reprove you when you use these idle words?

James 5:19-20 “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth . . . he which converteth . . . shall save a soul. . . .”

Genesis 17:1 “. . . the Lord appeared to Abram, and said . . . walk before me, and be thou perfect.”

Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
