A Token Of A Covenant Between God And Every Creature

Genesis 9:8-17 “And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.”

A Token Of A Covenant Between God And The Children Of Abraham

17:1-19 “And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.”

(17:17 “Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed. . . .”)

[This is the first recorded time anybody laughed in the bible, and this was no time to be laughing!]

(18:12 “Therefore Sarah laughed within herself. . . .”)

(v. 13 “And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh. . . ?”)

(v. 15 “Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.”)

(21:1-6 “And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.”) [Liar!]

Then The Church

Romans 4:8-12 “And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised. . . .”

1st Corinthians 7:18-19 “Is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised.”

Colossians 2:8-17 “In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. . . .”

Galatians 6:15 “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.”

John 3:1-23 “And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there. . . .”

[Well, What’s The “Token” We Get?]

2nd Thessalonians 1:1-10 “. . . your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God. . . .” (If you’re getting along fine with everybody, you are the enemy of God.)

QUESTION: What do Christians get that they can see?]

ANSWER: Nothing, nada, zip, zero! 2nd Corinthians 5:7 “(For we walk by faith, not by sight. . . .)”

John 20:29 “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”

Passover

Exodus 12:1-24 “Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year . . . and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.”

John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

vs. 35-36 “And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!”

[What’s The Point Here?]

1st Corinthians 5:6-7 “ For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us. . . .”

Matthew 27:46 “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” [That’s a question.]

2nd Corinthians 5:17-21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” [That’s the answer.]

God is not a “force matrix”, or “omnipresent” [Like “the great oneness” which evil men imagine! (Hinduism)]

Exodus 13:21-22 “And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud . . . and by night in a pillar of fire. . . .”

14:19-20 “. . . the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them. . . .”

19:9 “And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever.” (What’s The Point Here?)

v. 16 “. . . there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount. . . .” (What’s The Point Here?)

20:21 “And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.”

(Psalm 97 “Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.”)

QUESTION: What was significant about what you didn’t see?

ANSWER: Deuteronomy 4:15

Deuteronomy 4:15 “Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire. . . .” [There weren’t any graven image “aids to worship.”]

“The Rock”

Exodus 24:8 “And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.”

30:20 “When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the Lord. . . .”

Leviticus 14:50-51 “. . . he shall . . . dip them in the blood . . . and in the running water . . . .”

[The cure involves BLOOD and WATER.]

1st John 5:5-6 “This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood.”

John 19:30-34 “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.”

Hebrews 9:19,22-24 “. . . Moses . . .according to the law . . . took the blood . . .with water. . . .”

Λ 8:1,4-5 “the example and shadow of heavenly things . . . according to the pattern”

[QUESTION: Jesus Christ is the “Lamb of God” and so blood came out. WHAT IS HE that water came out?]

Exodus 17:1-7 “. . . and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it. . . .”

Isaiah 53:4 “. . . we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.”

(Also: Deuteronomy 8:15; Nehemiah 9:13-15; Psalm 114:7-8)

Numbers 20:7-11 “And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice. . . .” (What’s wrong here?)

v. 12 [Because Moses did this he never entered into the promised land!]

A One Time Sacrifice:

Hebrews 9:1-12 “But Christ . . . by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place. . . .”

vs. 25-26 “[He did not] offer himself often, as the high priest . . . but now once . . . by the sacrifice of himself.”

vs. 27-28 “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many. . . .”

10:10 “. . . we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

vs. 11-14 “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (ONCE! unlike the”mass”)

The Lord is the Rock

2nd Samuel 23:3 Jesus Christ is “the Rock of Israel” shown in a figure from the beginning to Israel.

Deuteronomy 32:3-4 “He is the Rock . . . a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”

v. 15 “. . . then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.”

v. 18 “Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.”

1st Samuel 2:2 “There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”

2nd Samuel 22:1-3 “The Lord is my rock. . . .” (Yea, Lord!)

Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock. . . .” (So who is your “rock”?)

62:2,6 “He only is my rock and my salvation. . . .” (There aren’t “two rocks” for the church, either!)

2nd Samuel 22:32 “For who is God save the Lord? or who is a rock save our God?” (“Peter” maybe?)

QUESTION: Why is it important that we are told we do not have two rocks?

ANSWER: Matthew 6:24

Matthew 6:24 “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other: or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” [Your Rock cannot be the Lord and “Peter”.]

1st Corinthians 10:1-4 “. . . for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”

Communion

Matthew 26:26-29 “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread . . . and said, Take, eat; this is my body.”

(John 2:19-22 “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. . . . he spake of the temple of his body.”)

1st Corinthians 11:24 “And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

Isaiah 52:14-15 “As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: so shall he sprinkle many nations. . . .” (He sprinkled them with his own blood!)

1st Corinthians 11:25-26 “After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.”

Luke 22:7 “Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.”

v. 19 “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

John 6:30-33 “For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.”
